Subject: Are Your Church Leaders Speaking for You?

Dear Friend of IRD:

Many of our church leaders have made (and continue to make) statements questioning the moral legitimacy of the ongoing war against terrorism. Some have refused to call the terrorists "evildoers," while others claim that the United States brought this act of terror upon itself. Many have claimed that the measured military response to those terrorist attacks is the moral equivalent of the events of September 11.

Do these church leaders speak for you? If you are concerned about the positions your church is taking in response to the war on terrorism, please visit our website. There, you will be able to read the unedited statements of these church officials. You will also be able to sign your name to a letter to President Bush claiming these individuals don't speak for you.

Thank you for your support of IRD. Please feel free to forward this message to anyone you feel might be interested in what church officials have to say about the war on terrorism.

Sincerely, Diane Knippers President
The Institute on Religion and Democracy
