United Methodist News Service Ignores Church Law Prohibition Against Promoting Homosexuality

In light of the decision by UMCom to begin publishing news of interest to the "sexual minority" community I have sent the following missive to them at newsdesk@umcom.org 

I note the new subscription service to GLBT News and that you show this group as a sexual minority. The Book of Discipline 2000 Section II Paragraph 806.9 says the following:

"It shall be responsible for ensuring that no board, agency, committee, commission, or council shall give United Methodist funds to any gay caucus or group, or otherwise use such funds to promote the acceptance of homosexuality. The council shall have the right to stop such expenditures.18 This restriction shall not limit the Church's ministry in response to the HIV epidemic."

It appears to me that you have decided that this particular prohibition may be ignored and you are free to promote homosexuality as an acceptable lifestyle. Please take note of what you have done with this and rethink this position in light of what our discipline clearly states as a prohibition.

I don't know if it will do any good but I want them to know that at least some of us are opposed to this use of UM resources.
