United Methodist Caucus Wants to Listen
A chance to speak and to be heard will be given to all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered [LGBT] people, their family and friends at the Affirmation Southeastern Jurisdiction Listening Post at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at the Church of the Reconciler United Methodist Church [UMC], 316/318 - 18th St. N., Downtown Birmingham, AL. Affirmation is a national caucus giving voice to LGBT people and speaking their concerns and joys within the UMC. The organization has just celebrated its 25th anniversary. The Listening Post, one of several planned in different regions of the country, is designed to offer 2-way communication between the members of the Affirmation National Council and local LGBT members. Council members will explain what the group is doing and has done. But most importantly it wants to hear what LGBT people living in the Southeastern area want Affirmation to be doing and being.
People's sharing will be handled in confidentiality. Those present will be free to offer only their first names or to be anonymous. For further information about Affirmation, visit Affirmation's web site at http://www.umaffirm.org. The group can be contacted by email at email@example.com. The postal mailing address is: UM Affirmation, P.O. Box 1021, Evanston, IL 60204-1021. The Birmingham host churchıs web site is http://www.gbgm-umc.org/reconcileral/.
