UMC Northern Illinois Conference Promotes Homosexuality At Official Meetings


Sept. 25 [2002]: So Great a Cloud of Witnesses:  The Story of the Shower of Stoles Project

On Wednesday, Sept. 25, First UMC at the Chicago Temple, 77 W. Washington St., Chicago, will host a gallery viewing of the Shower of Stoles Project and the premiere of a new video, "So Great a Cloud of Witnesses:  The Story of the Shower of Stoles Project."  The viewing will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the video premier at 6:30 p.m.  Individuals represented by more than 800 stoles from 18 denominations all over North America are have been barred from serving their denomination because of their sexual orientation.  The collection of stoles was created to give a voice to these people, many of whom have been forced to choose between serving in silence or losing their livelihood.

Sept. 29 [2002]:  Coming out of the Closet; Staying in the Church

Euclid Avenue UMC, 405 S. Euclid Ave., Oak Park, will celebrate its Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transsexual ministry on Sunday, Sept. 29.  "Coming out of the Closet; Staying in the Church," an adult discussion led by the Rev. Perry Wiggins starts at 9:15 a.m. Worship at 10:30 a.m. includes the music of Vanessa Davis, a lesbian, African-American blues and rock singer.  The service will be followed by brunch at noon.  Brunch tickets are $5.
