Omaha Laity Fellowship to Become UM Church

Hello everyone!

In eight days, the United Methodist Laity Fellowship of Omaha will be chartering as a new United Methodist Church.

Why, you ask? Because that's the way God planned it. You see, God did not pull all us out of our previous UM church to go our own ways. Instead, He laid upon us a tremendous responsibility. In giving us new life and spiritual growth through this experience, He has shown us how deficient we had been. I don't think we'll ever know why He decided to give us another chance to learn about Jesus Christ, but I suppose it's due to the prayers of a lot of people all over the country who had been hoping for new life to come to those in the UMC. For those prayers, I thank you from the bottom of my heart because they have changed our lives and we will never be the same.

All I hear lately is people saying that "God has left the UMC." I don't know what He is going to do about the UMC's "structure," but I am positive that He has not left all the people. What is the church if it's not the people? We know what it's like to be asleep, and we have been given the gift of being woken up. That gift was given to us with the responsibility of sharing it with others who are just like we were. Why is everyone waiting for "something to happen?" Can't you see that it's already happening? What is revival if it's not God turning people to the Truth? Why would He take a group of totally undeserving people, show them the Truth, give them the resources to form a ministry, bring a Spirit-filled pastor to them, and ask them to become a UMC? I don't think God has removed His lampstand...I think He has just turned on another light.

We are anxiously awaiting next Sunday and are ready to celebrate this Advent season with the birth of our new church. It has been nine long months since we started having church services together. More blood, sweat, tears, and sleepless nights have gone into this "pregnancy" than I could ever begin to tell you. God's Spirit has been out in front leading us through this wilderness and has been very close to us.

If any of you are in the area, please join us for our celebration. Also, when you're questioning God's involvement with the UMC, don't forget that He lit a match that started a fire here in Omaha.
