Subject: IRD Year-End Appeal

Dear IRD Friend:

We are facing a huge challenge this month. We need to raise $185,000 from friends like you, in order to end this year in the black. Can we do it? Im convinced that we can. But we need your help.

In many ways, this has been an extraordinary year for the IRD. Weve experienced substantial successes in the United Methodist Church and Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Our work for the reformation of Anglicanism in North America is having an impact and our global contacts are growing. Weve launched a new religious liberty program the Liberty Initiative for North Korea (LINK) and our Church Alliance for a New Sudan has taken a lead in challenging the tragic genocide in Darfur, Sudan.

Weve had unprecedented media attention from The New York Times to Fox News and CNN. Our landmark report on mainline church human rights advocacy provoked sharp, but grossly inadequate, defensive reactions from church leaders. We are poised to expand that critique and point the churches in new, more balanced directions. Our work in the Evangelical community is also growing, particularly my co-chairing an initiative within the National Association of Evangelicals which produced the milestone statement: For the Health of the Nation: An Evangelical Call to Civic Engagement.

Its an extraordinary record for a small staff of nine. Im proud of what we are accomplishing and I hope you are as well.

What a disappointment it would be if we have to cut back or slow down just we are poised for expansion and increased effectiveness on several fronts.

Wont you help with a significant gift to the IRD before the end of the year? Contributing on-line is easy. Just click here and follow the instructions:

Our need is urgent. The opportunities for 2005 are stunning. Thank you for standing with us.

Best wishes for a blessed Advent,

Diane Knippers
