The board and staff at Reconciling Ministries Network is excited to announce that we are hiring a full-time Field Organizer with a Young Adult emphasis. This strategic move comes after deep prayer, reflection and thought at the last Reconciling Ministries Network board meeting prior to General Conference. With the position fully funded, we are now looking for the right candidate.

SUMMARY

The purpose of this Field Organizer with Young Adult Emphasis position is to:
1) increase the number of new Reconciling campus ministries, congregations and organizations
2) challenge and assist existing and Reconciling settings to adopt deeper postures of welcome
3) increase the number of dedicated volunteers who are trained in faith-base community organizing  
4) network strategically to plan for actions that will ultimately
5) effect systemic change within the UMC - and beyond, toward a church and a society that genuinely welcomes and includes people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

The focus is to move the "movable middle," by graceful engagement, using RMN tools and training to build relationships of trust with people who will work to accomplish RMN goals. The position requires significant skills in interpersonal communication, a grace-filled, positive and professional demeanor, and willingness to respond appropriately and in a timely way.  Position requires a service motivation, boldness, strong initiative, superior trust/rapport building, excellent record-keeping, and a truly welcoming spirit.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, Goals & Objectives

The Field Organizer will be expected to engage in the following:
a) Word and Sacrament or Word and Service Ministry, including preaching, teaching, training, speaking
b) Full integration into the MoSAIC Leadership Team
c) Assessment, use and development of resources for young adult in diverse settings
d) Volunteer recruitment, empowerment and leadership development
e) RMN legislative engagement in collaboration with other constituents and allies
f) Establish appropriately professional relationships, with boundaries, in compliance with RMN policies

Specific Goals & Objectives
 

• Create and perform "transforming" conversations and presentations including sharing own faith
• Establish and maintain active and trained (volunteer) core teams  
• Identify and cultivate relationships with key persons at each setting to identify gifts/strengths and challenges/needs in each 
• Substantially increase the number of Reconciling Campus Ministries
• Develop a clear and coordinated Young Adult voice in context of RMN mission and purpose
• Increase number of donors to RMN
• Travel,  in own vehicle, with some commercial air travel
• Be willing to stay in the homes of members and contacts to build relationships and minimize costs
• Organize, analyze and report on information gathered
• Respect confidentiality and exercise good judgment
• Perform other duties, as assigned
   

QUALIFICATIONS
 

• Membership and ongoing connection to United Methodist Church required.
• Strong connections with United Methodist Young Adults Ministries preferred (UMSF, YASN, YAD).
• Working knowledge of The United Methodist Church.  M.Div. or M.A. in Theology preferred.
• Commitment to the vision and mission of RMN
• Understanding of the issues faced by LGBTQ persons in society and The United Methodist Church
• Experience organizing at a local level with students or young adults
• Experience in organizing and empowering lay persons (faith-based community organizing) preferred
• Experience in building relationships across ideological lines
• Experience in developing, identifying, engaging and persuading, using appropriate resources
• Excellent communications skills, verbal & written, primarily in English
• Experience with and skills for mentoring, public address, teaching, preaching, training and pastoral care.
• Strong working knowledge of electronic communication methods, plus Facebook, WORD, EXCEL, Outlook.
• Skill in building trust and encouraging volunteers
• Dependable personal vehicle & insurance, valid driver's license and good driving record
• Willingness to travel as needed
• Strong ability to organize, analyze and report on information gathered
• Ability to respect confidentiality and exercise good judgment
