UM General Agency Speaking On Behalf of the UMC Threatens To Sever Ties With Boy Scouts Over Gay Leaders Ban
(HACKENSACK) -- The Boy Scouts of America is getting ready to appeal a New Jersey Supreme Court ruling that the group could not oust a New Jersey man because he's gay. The United Methodist Church threatens to stop its sponsorship over the issue. Its policy-making board [General Board of Church and Society] also encouraged the scouting organization to stop the policy barring homosexuals. The United Methodist Church sponsors about 15-percent of the three point-three-Million Scouts in the United States. The Boy Scout organization tells the Hackensack "Record" its relationship with the United Methodist Church's congregation will endure.
