Nebraska Evangelical UMs Offers Testimony To Answered Prayer After Unanimous Vote For Conviction And Penalty
I would like to give you an update on the Creech trial and the response to prayers concerning the trial. I wrote you earlier asking for several prayer requests. We asked for a jury that would have the courage to find Jimmy guilty and then take his credentials. That was answered. The vote was 13-0 in both the trial and penalty deliberations.
We asked that Fred Phelps would not show up. Fred showed up but he only stayed about an hour. There were only a few of them. Most people who came to the trial never even saw him. He got on TV and then he left.
We asked for protection from evil. During the deliberations for the penalty it was taking a long time. The AUMEN group got up to pray asking for God's will regardless of the outcome, we felt a blockage taking place and asked that the jury would be all of one accord. After we concluded with the Lord's prayer, in just a few more minutes the jury returned with its 13-0 removal of credentials.
We asked that the sideshow out side would not turn into the main show. That was answered. The protesters on both sides were cordial, friendly, and not overly emotional.
We prayed for a winsome testimony from evangelicals. Only time will tell. The other side was deeply hurt and upset by the verdict. We can only pray now that God would open their eyes to see that this was not a case of compassion versus truth, that we are not practicing "spiritual violence." The truth sets us free and the truth is compassionate as it alone frees us, sets the captive free, and allows us to be what God created us to become. This was not spiritual violence any more than when Jesus told the woman caught in adultery to go and sin no more.
Thank you to all who have upheld the Nebraska Annual Conference, the AUMEN group, and the United Methodist Church in your prayers.
May God continue to grant us healing. Jeff
