I forward this statement from Shannon Black of Yuba City. He is the husband of Lois Black now pastor of the remaining United Methodists in Yuba City. BTW, yesterday we had a reorganization meeting for ERF [Evangelical Renewal Fellowship]. I was most encouraged by the turnout. Notice was put out only by e mail and many who did not get the e mail found out about the meeting and came. It was thrilling to see so many come into the room; we even had to change rooms because the crowd who came. Five may have left, but many, many more are staying! More later.

"This morning another evangelical pastor opted to remain a United Methodist and shepherd the flock to which they had been called. On this blessed Lord's Day these pastors preached the gospel and lead people to Christ without so much as a whisper of homosexuality or denominational politics. These pastors remained true to their calling, wept when their parishioners wept and rejoiced when they rejoiced. Not one of these pastors left their congregations bleeding on the political battlefield; but, they did cherish their call to tend their flocks. These pastors, like their defecting counterparts, hold true to the Word requiring that Christians be separate from the world and not a part of it. The difference is these pastors have been called to stay and fight Satan's barbs not retreat to a safe haven.

Just as homosexuals make up only a few percentages of the nation's population so too the ranks of defecting pastors. Try this in your many disseminations:

(8) Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-- think about such things. (9) Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me-- put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Phil 4:8-9 (NIV)

Those who stay and fight are just as worthy of praise as those who flee to safe haven. Painting those that remain as somehow liberal and leprous is way out of bounds.

If you want to rejuvenate ERF "think about these things."
