This is a copy of the email I sent Bishop Talbert July 16, 2000
To Melvin Talbert, Bishop CANV Conference UMC
Dear Bishop Talbert:
Both my wife and I, after much prayer, wish to resign from membership in the Atwater United Methodist Church and the Methodist church denomination. Your stance in placing your personal values above those of the book of discipline and of Holy Scripture make it impossible for us to continue as Methodists in this area. From Scripture Matt 6:24 "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." (KJV) By your actions you have demonstrated your choice to serve man but As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.
Both my wife and I will continue to pray for you.
