Dear John,

I wanted to get this up on the board ASAP. Please pray for John Motz and his congregation as the DS has changed the terms of the agreement she made with him yesterday and has threatened that she must have his ministerial credentials this Sunday or he will be faced with Disciplinary sancations, presumeably suspension.

You remember that John is one of the remaining six pastors who called for withholding of apportionments over Bishop Talbert and the Cabinet supporting the injustice done with the Sacramento 68. John is also a gifted pastor, a member of the Good News Board of Directors (perhaps "former member now"), and an Asbury graduate. For the past 9 years, he has brought the Atwater church alive, growing it from 100 or so to 300. There is a core of 20 or so UMC loyalists who are being very vicious to John and the church leadership as they leave. They are in contact with the DS and will maintain the UMC as an almost empty shell in Atwater. So much for the Kingdom focus. Meanwhile, when Atwater Community Church launches, it will be ready to reach people for Jesus and carry out his Great Commission.
