Subject: Tehachapi Update
Last Sunday evening, Grace Fellowship of Tehachapi launched with 130 or so attending services at the Nazarene Church sanctuary. Kyle reports that three new families visited for the first service. The $20,000 offering more than met the monthly need, so they are in good shape financially.
Meanwhile, Kyle has been suspended and intends to surrender his credentials by the end of the month. The DS was present for worship with the remaining Tehachapi Valley UMC on Sunday morning with about 35 people present. She persuaded them to "lock out" the youth group which had planned to continue meeting at TVUMC for the short run. The kids showed up and the gates were locked "for liability reasons". Apparently, they are going to appoint a retired pastor to TVUMC in an attempt to keep something going and to freeze Grace Fellowship out of obtaining the rented facility. And all of a sudden there's talk that the UMC will actually buy the facility for the TVUMC loyalists.
Kyle is trying to remain gracious in hopes that some of the undecideds may come along after all. He is busy moving out of the parsonage and is in high spirits that he doesn't have to attend Annual Conference this week or any more.
Continue praying for the people of Grace Fellowship and another church that is probably right behind. I should have information on it within the week. So much for news from the front.
